A few weeks ago we met in Instructional Teams to talk about best practices in math instructions. Many of you shared some great ideas and I have included some of those below. As we discussed on that day, focusing on instruction around fact fluency, daily vocabulary review, problem-solving, and continuous concept review are best practices. Here are some ideas from your peers:
- Play Around the World, but with math vocabulary cards
- Create a fact family flipchart
- www.arcademics.com
- Create a flipchart with geometry terms and models
- Go to this blog to see how to play a super-easy, fun card game called Salute: http://www.makelearningfun.info/2011/08/salute-quick-fun-card-game-to-practice.html
- Check out this link to an animated math dictionary. It is so cool: http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html
- Promethan Planet has tons of good review items and interactive manipulatives
- Here's a great site with tons of teaching ideas for math: http://www.ilovethatteachingidea.com/ideas/subj_math2.htm
